Today we will be looking at, The Top 3 Used Cars Sold in South Africa for 2020! Where there is mass production of cars, there is mass production of auto parts and easier accessibility to them.
Ever been without your car for a day or two, while the auto shop is waiting on spare parts to arrive, from out of town? Hate that feeling of having to rely on someone else, to drop the children at school or run to the grocery store? Yes, me too. When the Sunday Times released the top 3 most sold used cars, it came as no surprise that they are the same as the top 3 most sold new cars, except for the used Volkswagen Polo taking the place of the new Volkswagen Polo Vivo.
The Ford Ranger takes first place, contributing 4.7% of all used cars sold. This vehicle has earned its spot, this tough boy, is great value for money. With 2016 being the average model, milage at about 86,000km and selling price at roughly R 305,000. The Ranger comes standard with a fully boxed high-strength steel frame with six cross-members, a set of steel bumpers and tow hooks that are mounted directly to the frame. In the world of off-road adventures, this pickup offers punchy acceleration and impressive fuel economy.
The Volkswagen Polo takes second place, and like the Ford Ranger contributes 4.7% of all used cars sold. Missing the top spot, by only selling 82 units less, than the Ford Ranger. With 2016 being the average model, milage at about 58,000 km and selling price at roughly R 205,000. The Polo’s 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine is also among the best in its class. The tiny turbo produces 81kW between 4600-5600rpm and 175Nm from a terrifically broad 1400-4000rpm, motivating the 1151kg hatchback from 0-100km/h in a reasonable 9.3 seconds.
In third place we have the Toyota Hilux, contributing 3.4% of all used cars sold, slightly pricier than the Ford Ranger, but everyone has their favourites. With 2013 being the average model, milage at about 102,000km and selling price at roughly R327,000. Toyota Hilux is known for durability, strength and outright quality, while providing customers with comfort, refinement, and reliability.
Please remember that when you are purchasing a used vehicle from a private seller it is always a good idea to meet at your mechanic’s shop. This is a reasonable request, and the seller should not have any issues with your request, unless the seller is intentionally trying to conceal problems with the vehicle. In our next blog we will be going into depth, on how to buy a used car from a private seller, so stay posted!
