Midas Bredasdorp - Blog

Midas Bredasdorp – “We have a passion for people, service, and all things auto!”

Where there is mass production of cars, there is mass production of auto parts and easier accessibility to them.

In 2020, we were presented with some fascinating insights into local buying patterns in the South African motor retail industry, reaching a new time low for the first time in almost 20 years.

We will be looking at the top three Motor Vehicles, South Africans felt confident enough to spend their hard-earned money on, in 2020’s turbulent economic climate.

The Toyota Hilux takes First place and remains the dominant player in the South African Market, with 31 263 units sold.

Available in Single, Xtra and Double Cab, the Toyota Hilux is known for durability, strength and outright quality. For Toyota lovers, the Toyota Hilux is not only viewed as a mode of transport, but as a trusted family member.

The ‘bakkie’ of today not only serves as leisure transport for the family but as a valued business partner in the South African market, providing customers with comfort, refinement, and reliability.

Featuring a range of newly developed petrol and diesel engines, the new Hilux offers improved power output, efficiency, and refinement. The new ‘Global Diesel’ series was developed from the ground up with superb advancements to provide an unforgettable driving experience both on and off road.

In Second Place we have the Volkswagen Polo Vivo with 19 750 units sold in 2020, the Polo Vivo’s stylish design, innovative features and fuel efficiency makes it clear that affordability is key to sustained sales volumes.

The Volkswagen Polo Vivo is available in five trim levels namely Trendline, Comfortline, Highline, GT and Sound Edition.

You will be pleased to know that even the most basic model, comes standard with airbags for the driver and passenger, power windows, power steering with height- and reach-adjustable steering column, ABS, electronic rev counter, digital clock, digital trip recorder, front door pockets, passenger vanity mirror, manual anti-dazzle rear view mirror, and air-conditioning system.

As if that is not enough, Volkswagen has developed the Vivo Sound Edition, comprised of App-Connect, Radio R340G and a subwoofer set with a Vivo 6 Speaker sound system, to keep you company on your travels.

This compact hatchback truly is great value for money!

The Ford Ranger takes Third place, with 18 846 units sold. No big changes were made for 2020, however adventure seekers will be interested in the Ranger’s all-new FX2 Off-Road package, transforming the 2WD-Ranger into a tougher pickup.

The Ford Ranger has a powerful 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, with a 0-60 mph time of 6.5 seconds, its turbocharged four-cylinder engine feels just as muscular as a traditional V6 engine.

This pickup offers punchy acceleration when called upon and the impressive fuel economy tops out at 26 mpg.

In the world of off-road adventures, The Ranger comes standard with a fully boxed high-strength steel frame with six cross-members, its own set of steel bumpers and tow hooks that are mounted directly to the frame.

Featuring a terrain management system, with four selectable drive modes, choose “normal” mode for everyday driving, “grass/gravel/snow” for surfaces where traction is tenuous, “mud/ruts” for when it’s muddy, and “sand” for the beach.

The 2020 Ford Ranger is a hugely capable workhorse with a four out of five-reliability rating, making this well priced Bakkie one of South Africa’s favourite vehicles.
