The Mercedes Benz
The year was 1886 January 29 to be exact, when German inventor Karl Benz patented his Benz Patent-Motorwagen “vehicle powered by a gas engine,” this was regarded as the birth of the modern car.
As we have seen with some of the greatest companies today, they all came from humble beginnings and this is no different for the invention of the automobile.
The Ford
It was the fall of 1896 in Detroit when a very determined 33-year-old Henry Ford and some friends built his first experimental car in a shed behind the house he and his wife Clara lived in.
In the early 20th century, the American car manufacturing company owned by Henry Ford, The Ford Motor Company, released the 1908 Model T and cars became widely available to the masses.
The Volkwagen
It all started on May 28, 1937 Adolf Hitler requested that Ferdinand Porsche design a car for the people, the word Volkswagen means “People’s car” in German.
In Berlin Germany, Adolf Hitler formed a new state-owned automobile company, Gesellschaft zur Vorbereitung des Deutschen Volkswagens mbH, and the Volkswagen Beetle was born.
The Ferrari
Enzo Ferrari started his racing career early in 1919, retiring twelve years later in 1931 to manage the Alfa Romeo racing division. In 1939 Avio Costruzioni was founded out of the Alfa Romeo race division by Enzo Ferrari and in 1940 he went on to build two sports cars. The Spider, powered by 1500cc 8-cylinder engine, he called “815”.
It was only in 1947 that Enzo Ferrari went on to build the first Ferrari-badged car, many people have forgotten that the original colour of the first Ferrari was yellow, chosen by Enzo for the emblem of his stable.
